ORIGIN

The Pixie-Bob is descended from the Legend Cat (a cat believed to be the product of a domestic cat and bobcat mating) found in the wilderness of the Pacific Northwest. Despite it's wild heritage, the Pixie Bob is a truly domesticated cat. Originally developed in Washington State by Carol Ann Brewer, this breed has since found it's way into the hearts of cat lovers everywhere.

ASPECT

The cat has a naturally short tail, but with the use of out-cross bloodlines, and the fact that the short tail gene is recessive, it is not uncommon to see a Pixie-Bob "pet" with a 3/4 to full length tail. The short to medium-long coat of the Pixie-Bob is heavily ticked and they are only accepted for show as Brown Spotted Tabby. The breed standard looks for a random spotted or broken mackerel pattern The shoulders and hipbones are very prominent. The legs are long and heavy boned with large feet. Being polydactyl is such a dominant trait that this is the only breed accepted for show with more than the usual number of toes. Many Pixie-Bobs also have Lynx tufting on their ear tips.

CHARACTER

This cat is highly intelligent, affectionate and loyal companion. The Pixie-Bob is renowned for its quiet nature. Many will rarely call out and they tend, instead, to voice what they want with musical chirrups. Pixie-Bobs are gregarious cats, they get along well with children and they also live comfortably with dogs and other pets.

CARE

The Pixie-Bob is a particularly robust cat because of its origins. The short hair Pixie-Bob does not require particular care; the long haired Pixie-Bob requires more care. Nevertheless, brushing with a small brush and comb, once a week will do it a lot of good and will help it get rid of its dead hairs. A good bath before every show is recommended and once every two months besides the shows.
